‘Little Giants’ junior volleyball initiative a huge success in London

London, England, February 27, 2019.

One volleyball club in London has been running a series of junior volleyball weekend sessions that have been growing in numbers by the week. Little Giants volleyball club has indeed been working hard trying to introduce a junior volleyball initiative within their local community and in the schools within their boroughs in the city of London. It has been two seasons that the club has been running these sessions, which are attracting pupils aged 8 to 17 year old in increasing numbers from all parts of London. The club has been running these junior training groups in partnership with their local sports centres, Clapham Leisure Centre operated by GLL Better in Lambeth borough and Caius House Youth Centre in Wandsworth borough. Both boroughs are indeed impressed with the work that has been put into these sessions and that these initiatives have been so encouraging for many children that there are juniors coming from all parts of London, sometimes from far parts of the city, all for the love of volleyball. The club has been already in discussions with their local borough and is looking to represent the Lambeth borough at the prestigious London Youth Games in the upcoming season.

These sessions have not only been just for fun but they have also been providing a pathway for some of the young talents who have already been invited to train with the club’s successful senior male and female Giants teams where the players can enhance their skills and become a well-rounded volleyballer. One junior player has even been invited to Volleyball England national junior team try-outs. The club has been taking their Under 15 boys’ and girls’ teams to London Junior League Grand Prix series where players can get to play a real volleyball game against the other youngsters in London City. Club Chairwoman Çisel Ormancı states: “These sessions have not only been keeping the pupils active but also have been a link for some of them to develop friendships and become a ‘volleyball buddy’ to each other. We are quite proud of some of our older pupils who are looking forward to representing the club in a junior team that we are looking to enter into the national junior League run by Volleyball England in the upcoming season.” What a brilliant initiative by Little Giants VC improving the quality and quantity of volleyball in the City of London.
