Undefeated record assures first division Giants women's team, having beaten Pin Lon Lady Spikers in straight sets at Roehampton on Sunday afternoon (8th April). ends its league season undefeated on top of the 2B division with automatic promotion to the first division for the 2018-19 season. What a record! The only teams to take a set off the side were Wapping Tigers who did it twice: 21:12 21:16 18:21 21:6 away and 0:21 16:21 21:19 14:21 at home and will finish the season in second place. Imperial College managed it away: 21:9 21:11 14:21 21:11 and Malory Eagles 3 also did it away: 17:21 21:7 21:14 21:8. All the ten other results were 3:0 victories. Team coach Anestis Kales was full of praise. ”Congratulations to all the girls winning the league undefeated although the team was new and all the players came from different backgrounds, cultures and nationalities. It is never easy to win the championship throughout a season and they did it in an emphatic way showing commitment, dedication and trusting one another. Finally the most difficult thing to achieve is when you set the goal at the start of the season to win the league and accomplish that goal. Knowing that you have to win. That needs strong mentality and hard work.” Team captain Giulia Ponti looked to the future: “The club has created this team to win the league and we nailed it. We are super happy and we can't wait to test ourselves on court in a higher division next season. We know that it will be much harder but we have got time to prepare for it. Personally, I'm super proud of this group. I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best teams I've ever played and captained. I have met amazing people. We have created a community , where all members are helping each other and without ever giving up . Nothing is better that that! " Giants' management added,” Congratulations to the coach and the team. We’re very proud of every one of the ladies in the team. With the promotion of Giants ladies into the first division, Giants will be forming a new ladies team in Division 2 with the same goal!” Visit www.volleyballevents.org if you wish to apply for a tryout for Giants teams.
